A large bathroom in veined porcelain with a freestanding tub under a shuttered window. Pebble mosaic covers the shower floor and wraps the tub deck, set against a dark plank-look floor that makes the pale walls stand out.
What to look at
Pebbles are set so the surface is even, not smooth, and the grout between them is packed full so it does not trap water. The transition from pebble to plank is a straight line along a trim piece. The tub deck is built with a slight pitch away from the tub. The walls rise full height and the corners are finished with clean, tight joints.
How work like this is set
Mosaic tile is set on sheets, so the work is in the details between sheets. Each sheet is aligned so the joints continue unbroken across the seam, and the sheets are beaten in with a block so the surface is flat. On shower floors the mortar bed is sloped to the drain first, and the waterproofing goes down before the mosaic.
If you want something similar
If you are planning a bathroom like this, the tile is only part of the job. The walls, the tub or pan, the waterproofing and the substrate decide how long it lasts, so those are the questions to settle first. Send photos of the room and we will tell you what we see. We work in Cerritos and nearby, and the matching service is Bathroom & Shower Tile.
