A polished gray floor with soft cloudy patterning fills the bathroom, with a black freestanding tub and a white vanity against pale walls. The same gray, swirled pattern appears on the shower wall behind the glass door.
What to look at
A polished floor needs a flat base and a careful set, because reflections exaggerate every dip. The floor was leveled and each tile is set in full-coverage thinset. The tile around the tub is cut so the tub sits on a clean edge, and the floor continues into the shower. On the wall, the cloudy veining is matched from one tile to the next so the pattern flows.
How work like this is set
Set large floor tile over a floor that is not flat and the problem shows at the edges, as lippage. To avoid that we check the floor with a long straightedge, fill and grind before setting, and use a thinset rated for the tile size. Joints are held narrow and straight, and the room is laid out from the main sight line.
If you want something similar
Before choosing tile for a bathroom, check what is behind the old tile. Soft drywall, stains at the base of the wall or a pan that holds water point to a rebuild rather than a retile. Send us a photo and the approximate size and we will give you a straight answer. We work in Downey and nearby, and the matching service is Bathroom & Shower Tile.
