Close view of gray hexagon floor tile with narrow joints

A bathroom floor in large matte gray hexagons, laid out so the whole tiles fall where you look first and the cuts land along the tub deck and the walls. The tub sits in a raised surround with a paneled face, and the floor tile runs up to it with a clean, even joint.

What to look at

Hexagons forgive almost nothing in layout. Every row is offset by half a tile and every cut at the wall has two angled edges, so the center line is picked before any thinset is spread. In the close view the joints stay even from tile to tile, which only happens when the floor under them is flat. The matte surface also gives a little grip on a wet bathroom floor.

How work like this is set

Hexagon tile has no square edges to follow, so the layout is set from a chalk grid snapped on the floor. The first full row is placed on the center line and the cuts are pushed to the walls. Each wall cut has two angles, so each is marked and cut to fit individually rather than guessed from the next.

If you want something similar

A floor job starts with what is under it. Slab moisture, cracks, dips and old adhesive all affect how the new tile should be set. Send us the room, the approximate size and the tile you have in mind and we will tell you what prep it needs. We work in Bellflower and nearby, and the matching service is Residential Tile Installation.
