Blue-Gray Ceramic Niche Shower

Long rectangular blue-gray tile runs horizontally across the whole shower, with a rain head overhead and two recessed niches. A thin brass edge frames the larger niche and picks up the metal of the fixtures.
What to look at
The niche is the focal point, so it has to be right. Its shelf slopes slightly outward so water drains, the corners are tight, and the brass trim sits flush with the tile face rather than standing proud. The wall tile is set in a running bond and the joints are held narrow. Slight shade variation between tiles gives the wall depth, and the layout was planned so the niche falls on a joint line.
How work like this is set
With ceramic or glass wall tile, small differences in tile size add up across a wall. We mix boxes, keep the joints consistent and check the lines every few rows. Outside corners are finished with a trim piece or a mitered edge, and the niche and the valve are set on whole tiles wherever possible so the cuts are not the first thing you see.
If you want something similar
If you want a shower like this, start with the structure: the pan, the curb and the walls behind the tile. Then choose the tile, the niche location and the fixtures. Send photos of your shower and approximate size and we will tell you what the job involves. We work in Downey and nearby, and the matching service is Bathroom & Shower Tile.
